Flexible solution with results

The Norfolk Environmental Waste Services facility in Norwich, England handles up to 100,000 tons of dry recyclable material per year. With high demands on quality, safety and standard, a sanitation system that can handle the work is also required.

CHALLENGE

Huge amounts of dust

Handling dry recyclable materials, mostly paper and cardboard involves large amounts of dust. As the facility’s recycling system expanded and became more advanced, a new sanitation system was required. An outdated cleaning system wears on the operators and is also unable to maintain a dust-free working environment. Cleaning simply needed to be more efficient, to meet the tough demands on quality, environment and safety standards in the industry.

SOLUTION

Powerful vacuum system for two floors

In cooperation with DISAB’s engineers, a tailor-made system was developed for the facility in Norwich. The two-storey building required a flexible and powerful system with easily accessible suction sockets around the two floors.

“For us, DISAB’s centralized vacuum systems are an ideal solution for cleaning and dust removal.”

David Lake, Production Manager Norfolk Environmental Waste Services

A total of 100 meters of pipes were installed, with suction power from a powerful vacuum unit with an associated filter separator. A total of nine suction sockets make the system easy to use and accessible throughout the building. The system is closed, which means that the work environment becomes almost dust-free, and operators do not have to wear face masks.

RESULT

Dust-free and clean working environment with the help of vacuum systems

Production manager David Lake explains that the tailor-made vacuum system has improved and facilitated the daily cleaning routines for operators. A centralized vacuum system means that operators only need to connect the suction hose to a suction socket and start cleaning where needed, instead of moving around manual cleaning equipment. According to David Lake, the vacuum system has improved cleaning routines, access and work environment, which has resulted in a clean and dust-free workplace. Lake also believes that the solution of removing the dust directly at the source, using a powerful vacuum, has proven to be the most effective solution for a dust-free environment.
