Oslo’s heat and power plant, designed and built by Hitachi Zosen Inova, is located at Klemetsrud. The facility produces electricity and 300-gigawatt hours of energy per year for the hot water supply in Oslo. 

CHALLENGE

Large amounts of dust and waste emissions

90% of what the Klemetsrud plant handles is household waste, but it also includes handling of things like infectious waste from hospitals, non-hazardous low-risk waste, and packaging, pallets, and cartons from companies. Incinerations of 20 tons of waste per hour create large volumes of ash-based dust and waste emissions. Hitachi Zosen Inova sought an efficient cleaning system of the highest quality, to cope with the quantities of dust and waste.

SOLUTION

Tailor-made vacuum system throughout the facility

Christian Suter, project manager for Hitachi Zosen Inova, believes that DISAB’s broad experience in both the energy sector and designing central vacuum systems weighed into the choice of supplier. In the plant, a complete vacuum system with an associated piping system of 1300 meters was installed, with strategically placed suction sockets. The waste is sucked into the closed piping system for dust-free handling and then regularly emptied in big bags or euro bags. The powerful vacuum unit has been placed in an area without the risk of dust explosions and the rest of the system has been designed in line with ATEX regulations.
